6. Alina Simone - “Beautiful Machine” - Make Your Own Danger

I have a hard time putting a year on this release. It was completed in 2009, posted online in numerous places in 2010, sent to me by the artist in 2010, and then not released until mid-2011. So, by the time 2011 came, I didn’t listen to it very much. To the most of the rest of the world it was a 2011 release. I say this not in some misguided hipster bragging (“Oh, I heard this soooo last year”) but more to explain the thought process.

When stacked against 2011 songs, it does very well, so I put it on the list. If you want to own it forever it can also be downloaded at bandcamp for free. (I do recommend the whole album though even if it is about to become soooooo last year).
